Arizona Legislators Consider PEO Workers’ Compensation Reforms Before Adjournment

Arizona state senators heard an industry-supported measure in the waning days of session that proposed to give increased flexibility to PEOs and workers’ compensation carriers in the voluntary market. HB 2087, proposed to increase opportunities for coverage in the voluntary market by permitting both master workers’ compensation policies as well as client-held policies, would have also codified the multiple coordinated policy approach currently

permitted by administrative rule.  NAPEO worked closely with the bill sponsor and the original bill authors in the House to amend the bill language to ensure it closely mirrored workers’ compensation provisions in other states.  While the bill passed the House unanimously, focus on the budget and other matters prevented Senate consideration before adjournment. It is likely, however, that similar legislation will be introduced in 2010, at which time NAPEO will continue to work with the bill authors to ensure a favorable industry outcome.
